Party planning can be a whole lot of fun! But for people who haven’t done it many times before it can tend to be a lot more stressful than fun. Lots of people leave most of the prep until the last minute and that’s simply a recipe for disaster. When planning something like this, one of the key components to successfully avoiding stress is proper organization. Making a checklist is one of the surest ways to keep your itinerary clear and concise.

Before you go deeper into your planning, you’ll want to choose an appropriate theme for your party. There are a lot of themes to choose from, whether you’re celebrating a kid’s birthday, an anniversary, an adult birthday party, or throwing a party for a specific holiday. Once you know what the theme is going to be, it narrows down a whole lot and allows you to focus on the specifics.

The next step is to establish your party budget so you can know how much you’re willing to spend. This will determine how much you’re going to put into decorations, food, drinks etc. This is also very useful so that you don’t end up spending way more than is reasonable.

Then, you’ll want to secure the right venue for your party. You’ll want something appropriate for the amount of guests you’ll be having; nothing that feels too crowded, yet at the same time you don’t want it to feel empty. Once you find the venue that suits your party vibe, it’s time to set the date and get the guest list ready.

Next, you’ll want to prepare your invites and send them out to all the guests. Make sure you do this far enough in advance so your guests have a reasonable amount of time to plan your party into their schedules. If you’re going to celebrate something significant it might be a nice touch to prepare personalized invitations for each of your guests, that way you can add a little friendly touch and make each of your guests feel special.
